Majors – Science Teacher Preparation Program

The College of Science Teacher Preparation Program is designed to prepare science or mathematics majors for secondary level (middle school and high school) teacher certification. The program is comprised of 33-34 semester credits of science or math pedagogy courses and school experiences that complement the student's science and mathematics coursework.

Undergraduate Degrees Offered

Science
  1. Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in any of several science majors
  2. Bachelor of Science in Science Education (B.S.C.) with four options in Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, or Physics
Mathematics
  1. Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mathematics (Mathematics Education)
  2. Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Mathematics (Mathematics Education)
Curriculum

The program courses include the study of standards-based education, inquiry teaching, student learning, teaching strategies that promote understanding, characteristics of student learners, assessment, instructional planning, and secondary level science curriculum.

Career Options

Program completers will be eligible for teacher certification in Arizona and most other states. Career opportunities for high school and middle school science and mathematics teachers are plentiful across the nation.
