The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics offers a teaching and research program at the cutting edge of the life sciences. Protein structure and function, molecular genetics, and medical, plant and insect biochemistry are areas of primary interest. Over the next few decades these investigations will begin to answer questions about the most basic life processes. The department's cross-disciplinary graduate programs bring together biochemistry with related fields such as medicinal chemistry and molecular and cellular biology.
