Ron Carsten

Ron Carsten chairs the Dean’s Advisory Board for the College of Science at the University of Arizona. He retired from Raytheon Company (now part of RTX) as a Senior Principal Engineering Fellow and the Chief Engineer for Missile Systems. Since retirement he has devoted his experience in developing complex systems, related organizational effectiveness, and strategic planning to non-profit Board work in the community. In addition to the College of Science, Carsten serves on the Science Advisory Board for Biosphere 2 at the University, as well as the Community Advisory Board for Arizona Public Media, a community service of the University.

For many years, Carsten has been a mentor for undergraduate engineering students, both at UArizona, as well as his alma mater, The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City. He believes that early career counseling, providing a seasoned view of professional expectations for students, is an important obligation for the members of the profession to help students grow in maturity throughout their education. This is a current strategic focus of the College of Science and the Dean’s Advisory Board.

Carsten holds degrees in electrical engineering from Cooper Union and the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.
